12/26/2023 0 Comments Mtg dredge cards![]() ![]() Since I had a World Magic Cup Qualifier (WMCQ) coming up at the time and I was still a university student, I had a lot of time to work on the deck. Life from the Loam was the perfect card for the deck, as it helped you guarantee land drops for Bloodghast and flashing back Faithless Looting, as well as growing your hand size to set up a big Conflagrate. That’s when we realised we could adopt the technology of Life from the Loam with Conflagrate that Jason Chung put to good use when he made the Top 8 of GP Melbourne with Zombie Infestation during Eldrazi Winter. We had this idea in the past, but with the printing of the two new cards from Shadows over Innistrad, we finally felt that we had enough tools to make the deck work.Īfter Shi Tian came up with an initial sketch of the deck, we quickly realised that we needed some interaction or else we wouldn’t be able to beat cards like Scavenging Ooze or even a big Tarmogoyf. Shi Tian came up with the concept of using “enablers” ( Faithless Looting, Insolent Neonate and Tormenting Voice) alongside dredge cards ( Stinkweed Imp and Golgari Grave-Troll) to essentially mill our deck, which will reward us with “free” creatures in the form of Bloodghast, Narcomoeba and Prized Amalgam. When Golgari Grave-Troll was unbanned in Modern, it didn’t see any play for quite some time, until mid-2016, when we noticed the potential in Insolent Neonate and Prized Amalgam that was just printed in Shadows over Innistrad. My history with Modern Dredge is, to put it bluntly, helping to create the deck with Hall of Famer and former MPL player Lee Shi Tian. It has taken me multiple years to get all the cards – finding all the Chinese versions of the dredge cards from Ravnica: City of Guilds was extremely difficult! My history with Dredge Instead of Flayer of the Hatebound to give all of your creatures haste to simply attack. This is a photo of my current deck! I still have a couple of cards I want to upgrade, but I am very close to completing it. If your opponents are running a Leyline of Sanctity, sideboard in ![]() Remember, every time you sacrifice a creature, you will get zombies from Bridge from Below. If you know your opponent has counter spells, you can sacrifice a creature for When it enters the battlefield, thanks to flayer's power and the Prized Amalgams coming back again, it will deal a bunch of damage to the opponent, most likely taking them out. After you get out Flayer of the Hatebound, you will sacrifice the Prized Amalgams to play the second Dread Return targeting your biggest creature, which is probably When it comes into play, all of your Prized Amalgam's will return to the battlefield at the end of your turn to deal damage, even if they were the creatures sacrificed for Dread Return. First, you will sacrifice 3 creatures from the battlefield to play Dread Return targeting Flayer of the Hatebound. You also want to have two Dread Return's and a Flayer of the Hatebound in your graveyard. You want to get at least 3 narcomoeaba's into the battlefield, or at least three Prized Amalgam's on the battlefield (brought in by the narcomoeba's) and in the graveyard. How to Win Once you get this started, you will be looking for a few key cards. At any point if there is both a Balustrade Spy and Dread Return in your graveyard, dread return the spy to mill your entire library except for Progenitus, which is in this deck to stop just that from happening. , Narcomoeba, Prized Amalgam, and sometime zombies from Bridge from Below will make up bodies for Dread Return. Remember, dredge only happens at a point that you would draw. The play a few of the draw cards in your hand, which will either let you draw immediately or at the beginning of your next turn. You will then wait until next turn and instead of drawing, dredge your deck, hopefully into more dredgers. Instead, you will wait until your end step and discard on of the dredgers, or phantasmagorgian, which you will use to discard your dredgers anyway. First of all, you will always choose to draw at the beginning of the game, but you won't play anything. You will also need one or more draw cards ( Street Wraith, Gitaxian Probe, and Urza's Bauble). Another good starting card, if you have multiple dredgers, is phantasmagorgian. You want to start with one of the following cards in your hand: Golgari Grave-Troll, Stinkweed Imp, Golgari Thug, ![]() How to Start OffGetting the combination of cards started can be a little tricky.
